If you are an HGTV freak like the Mitchell ladies, then you will appreciate this blog (hopefully).

For my mom’s birthday this past May, I surprised her with plane tickets to Texas to visit the Silos and Magnolia Market. Since seeing the episode where Chip and Joanna Gains buy the Silos, she has been talking about how it is her DREAM to visit. What better surprise than this, I thought (and let me tell you, it is VERY hard to surprise my mother). She honestly didn’t think that I was being serious, but look where we are now!

I was pretty serious.

We had an early flight Monday morning but arrived safely in San Antonio around noon to warm hugs from my grandparents (they live in San Antonio). We had a wonderful time catching up with them that first evening and then all said goodnight, as we had to get up early again for our 4 1/2 hour drive to Waco the next morning!!

Coming from San Diego, I was ELATED to wake up to clouds and sprinkles! Yes, it was still muggy and hot but there was precipitation!!

The first thing we did once we got to Waco was head straight on over to the Magnolia Bakery. We got two cupcakes and this rose lemonade which was TO DIE FOR. The lavender lemon cupcake was absolutely mouthwatering, so light and airy. If you get the chance to visit, I highly recommend getting that one and the rose lemonade!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! And I am usually someone who doesn’t eat sweets (unless it is ice cream) and sticks strictly to water and coffee.

Once our stomachs were satisfied, we decided to go SHOPPING (obviously)!!! I had to get a souvenir so I decided to get a cute t-shirt with the ‘Magnolia’ logo on it (have to represent Waco back in SD). They had such cute home decor, I wanted to buy it all but that would also require me to have a way to transport it all home, as well as, having my own home. Oh well, next time I visit I will have both!

Every which way we turned was some aesthetically pleasing thing, whether it was outside or inside or on the ground or in the sky. It smelled so fresh and so clean (clean). I couldn’t get enough! The rain wasn’t going to rain on my parade, figuratively lol.

Since it’s October (even though it doesn’t feel fall-like), they had a cute lil pumpkin patch which I HAD to take photos in because WHO DOESN’T LOVE A GOOD PUMPKIN PATCH?! I was, yet again, in complete heaven.

On to day two, we woke up and went antiquing where Joanna typically goes for her cute rustic additions to her custom homes!! Let me tell you, we found some of the cutest antiques! Now, here I am saying they were the cutest but I just truly think everything is cute… Oh, well! It was so fun and interesting, coming up with different ways to use what might be perceived by some as “junk.” I felt very vintage-y being surrounded by all of this old stuff!

After buying things we didn’t need, we went back to the Silos… AGAIN! We needed to try two new cupcakes today! On today’s menu, we had Strawberries n’ Cream and Pumpkin Spice (’tis the season). I had to also get that rose lemonade again *heart eye emoji*. Sweets are not my thing, but I could definitely make them my thing lol.

To wrap up our day, I’ll just tell you that we went to the Dr. Pepper museum and it was dope like the pope. We got to see all of these old Dr. Pepper commercials dating all the way back to, I want to say, the 70’s. Sooooo cute (there I go again with the ‘cute’ thing).

We’ve got one more day here in Waco and then it is back to San Antonio to ride golf carts into the sunset!

I’m off to sleep with Star Wars playing in the background (it’s 2 hours ahead of my California time).

I hope you all are having an amazing beginning of fall and a happy October 4th!

Sincerely,

Kate
