*I dragged one of my very bestest friends all the way down to Cabrillo National Monument to capture photographs of me in this outfit. Months ago, I got this vision in my head of this outfit in this location… we FINALLY brought it to life!! So stoked!*
When I first saw this skirt come through J. Crew, I was NOT a fan…mainly because it looked like a paper bag and that’s NEVER a good look. Having worked with the company for almost 3 years, I’ve learned not to judge something based off its hanger appeal (or lack thereof). So, with the gentle nudge from my coworkers I decided, ‘what the heck’ and tried it on. Honestly, I believed in love at first sight in that instant. This skirt was everything I didn’t know that I wanted or needed. Every time I throw it on I feel like a 50’s housewife (which I always aspire to be).
SOLD.
I bought the skirt without really knowing what to wear it with, but when we received these off-the-shoulder tops this image popped into my head and I KNEW I had to make it a reality. I’d never been a neck scarf kind of girl until my coworker (and friend), Karlee, inspired me.
And with that, the outfit was complete!
(Tie it all together with a red lip & shoe… NOW it’s complete.)
I titled it “Modernizing a Classic” because I highly doubt a 50’s housewife would take the risk of having space buns as her hairstyle. I don’t know, they just seem like they would have been a bit more conservative than that. I decided to pull a Miley and rock it (not as well as she does, obviously).
This is just one of my all-time favorite looks because…
- I get to leave the house without pants on (that’s a big one for me).
- I get to rock a nice, bright lip color. It is ‘New Americana’ by Limecrime, which my coworker Teri introduced me to. They are vegan AND cruelty-free, if that is something you are interested in knowing. Lipstick is probably my all-time favorite part about my makeup routine. It’s just so much FUN!!!
- THIS OUTFIT IS HELLA COMFORTABLE!!! No, I am not from Northern California… I just felt that throwing ‘hella’ in there was necessary. Sorry, not sorry.
Cabrillo National Monument is probably one of my favorite spots in San Diego because it has a lighthouse… oh yeah, it’s also got a decent view of the city (decent being a joke, the view is spectacular). If you haven’t been, I highly recommend going. It is $15 for your car and the pass is good for an entire week! Now, I didn’t go anymore that week so I payed $15 just for that single visit but it was worth it. I spent time with one of my best friends and ate some good food, as well as basked in the glory that is SAN DIEGO.
This post may have been super boring, I don’t know… This is just the latest adventure that I went on so I thought I would share about it! It was fun, I captured some good video and ate some amazing avocado toast. If that’s not a grand adventure, then I don’t know WHAT is.
I hope you are all having an incredible week so far! I know it’s only Monday but still…
I’ve got some fun content that I will be shooting soon, so hopefully you guys will enjoy that!
Until then, as my old middle school used to make us say, “Make it a great day or not… the choice is yours.” LOL
Sincerely,
Kate
