With the 4th right around the corner (literally tomorrow), I thought I would share with you some red, white and blue inspired looks that I put together.
Now, my coworkers will tell you that I have been planning these outfits since mid to late February. This is an accurate statement. I tend to plan WELL in advance when the inspiration strikes.
(For example, I found a dress a month ago that made me decide I want to go to Greece next summer. I’ve already started shopping/outfit planning for that).
Back to the 4th, though. You all know that I used to work for J. Crew (and if you didn’t know, now you do), so most of my… well, all of my wardrobe comes from there. *I will do a life update post here soon so you know what I am up to now.* I tend to peruse jcrew.com on my free time, or just all of the time, and came across this collaboration tee they did with Prinkshop. Now, I don’t believe it is still available on J. Crew’s website BUT you can still get it on Prinkshop’s website. What I love about this company is that they support so many causes. This “Bang Bang Bang” tee promotes ending gun violence… Now, re-read that: ENDING GUN VIOLENCE. They’re not promoting taking people’s guns away, they’re pushing for the government taking the necessary precautions so that mass shootings and gun-related suicides decrease drastically. It has become too big of an issue to let it continue on the way it has. Now that I’ve shared my stance and what not, let’s get back to 4th inspired outfits! I paired this tee shirt with my Nike Cortez sneakers. I’ve been coveting these shoes since the day I was born, I believe. I wouldn’t really call myself 100% a sneakerhead, but maybe a mini-sneakerhead…? Yeah, I’d say I have a little bit of a sneaker addiction. But that’s okay. I thought pairing it with my denim skirt would be a perfect option for the 4th. It’s a casual look, good for a BBQ by the pool with friends.
Now, what’s more American than NYC?! I don’t even know. Everything American happens there. New Year’s Eve in Times Square, the Statue of Liberty, SVU… you get my point. I had the red converse before I had anything else, but I knew that I would possibly want to pair them with something for the 4th. These white Billie Boot Cut jeans may possibly be my all time favorite jean that I have ever purchased in my entire life. I know that is a bit of an exaggeration, but I’m not exaggerating. They not only make me feel so amazing, but they have this sort of retro flare with the boot cut detail. AND they are so stretchy, so really, it’s like you’re wearing a cloud. This “NYC” graphic tee was, yet again, from the men’s section at J. Crew. (Surprise, surprise). Sometimes, when buying a graphic tee, you just want it to be a little bit bigger of a fit than a women’s tee. If you didn’t think to do this, you’re welcome. (I’m sure you did, though). I ended up cutting this one into a crop top because, due to the fact it’s men’s, it was a little long. I don’t know, I think it gives it a bit of a younger feel, which I personally enjoy. You could also leave it at it’s length and just tuck it in if you weren’t feeling the crop so much. Totally up to your personal preference!! I couldn’t go without an accessory, so I threw on my blue little hat and was out the door (to a coffee shop, of course).
This next outfit has been one that is on my top outfit lists, at least of outfits that I own. Again, another men’s graphic tee. I liked it because of the lady sitting on the moon. I don’t know, it was very retro and reminded me of my grandparents’ era. Obviously because of that alone I had to get it. Now, these pants are very special pants. I have maybe 6 pair in different colors. They fit like a glove and bring out the best in your booty. The pockets are in the appropriate place and the wide leg crop aspect? Amazing. I literally can’t have enough of these pants. They come in like 5 different colors so I’d say hop on this band wagon before they go out of stock. Listen, I’m not the BEST at accessorizing but I am trying to get better, hence the bandana in my hair. I do love a good bandana! This look gave me a very empowering, Rosie the Riveter feel… I’m not mad about it. I love feeling empowered and I think more women should feel the same way!! Well, everyone should feel empowered but seeing as that I am a woman, I definitely want women to feel empowered.
Last but not least, who doesn’t want to wear a good t-shirt dress with some denim?? I have 4 of these garment-dyed t-shirt dresses and I do not regret buying a single one. They last FOREVER and it’s basically like I’m wearing a nightgown. WHO DOESN’T WANT TO GO OUT IN PUBLIC WEARING A NIGHTGOWN?!?! Exactly. I paired it with my oversized Madewell denim jacket and my FILA sneakers because I needed blue and white in the mix for it to be 4th inspired. I actually really love this outfit because it’s effortless and I can just throw it on a go to whatever firework party I’m watching. With the heat we are slowly but surely getting, it’s nice to have something lightweight like this. Because I am always running around doing something, this little number is just simple enough to not make it look like I tried too hard. As you can see, I NEVER try hard (that’s a joke, by the way).
Well, I hope this gave you all a little inspiration for 4th of July and what to wear! It’s definitely got me excited about it!!
I love being able to just be with family and relax… except, my family is out of town and I will be working. Damn.
Anyways, I hope you all have THE BEST 4th and enjoy some good good and fireworks! Be safe, but more importantly have FUN!!!
Sincerely,
Kate
