What-what, what-what?
Since you asked… Working in retail for the past 5 years, I’ve never had the desire to really go thrift shopping. After hearing Macklemore’s song, I definitely thought about it more and how cool it could be but I never actually went out and did it. I always got such good deals at my work so it never occurred to me that I’d get even BETTER deals at thrift stores.
Wait, that’s a lie. It did occur to me, I was just too impatient.
I’ve heard that you really have to be in a certain kind of mood to go thrifting, which was EXACTLY the mood I was in the other day! Convenient.
I literally drove all over the Oceanside/Carlsbad/Encinitas/Cardiff area finding thrift shops…
This is literally something that could turn into an all-day event. That’s at least how I found it to be.
Another thing that I was looking for was labels and brands that I already knew. I found a lot of Urban Outfitters, Madewell, Topshop, and Brandy Melville (which are all places that I shop at normally).
The best advice I can give to anybody going thrift shopping or wanting to attempt it would be to have PATIENCE. It can get very overwhelming, especially with how big the stores can be. You really have to rifle through a lot of not so great things to find the gems.
Something else to consider…
I know it can be easy to get carried away while thrifting, but trying to stick to finding things that you can truly incorporate into the wardrobe that you already have is very important. There were SO many things that I was like, “Oh my gosh, I NEED this.” But would I actually wear it? That was the real question. And it was a simple answer: NO. So, I stuck to the things that I could wear with things that I already have. That kept me on track and made it so I didn’t spend a million doll hairs on things that I didn’t actually need.
I’m definitely a fan of thrift shopping now and will probably do it more! It’s a good way to still shop while saving money on brands that you love!
(All of the outfits in this post were thrifted, the coffee was not.)
Sincerely,
Kate
